We, at Raymond Cape Winter Watch, hope you had a very Merry Christmas. It was a beautiful, peaceful and white one, here on Raymond Cape.
That said, one of our clients averted near-disaster with their lake home. We thought it appropos to share what happened and how we are positioned to help you, homeowners on Raymond Cape, avoid such disasters yourself.
Over the weekend, we received a text in the middle of the night indicating “I need a plumber, ASAP.”
It turns out, this person had awoken to the sound of water screaming (not just streaming) out of a shower valve, spraying water all over the bathroom, which happens to be above a beautifully finished and fully furnished basement. Fortunately, we were able to turn the water off, to avoid flooding and the ensuing damage, and engage a plumber in an effort to fix the issue.
Had no-one been staying there and/or no-one was available for a quick response, the above situation “could have” gone on for perhaps hours, days, maybe even weeks. The damage and resulting costs would have been significant.
Enter Raymond Cape Winter Watch – In addition to offering handyman services to engage on situations such as this, we also offer Winter Watch home check services to minimize the impact that such incidents could result in.
As outlined on our website, our External Walkarounds / Visual Inspections of the home are designed to identify exterior damage, ice dams, evidence of break-in, ensuring electrical service remains connected to the home, generator is running (if applicable), etc., after storms and otherwise. This includes taking pictures (extensive pictures at the beginning of the season as well as pictures from each visit) and sending details to our clients.
Our Internal Walkthrough / Visual Inspections of the home includes checking temperature, internet, security, confirming no rodent infestation or leaks, turning on / off heat cables (roof ice melting systems), flushing toilets, starting vehicle(s), checking battery tenders, ensuring enough salt in water softner systems, checking dehumidifier, heating fuel check, watering up to 10 plants. This also includes taking pictures and sending details to our clients.
To-date, the above services have been offered on a subscription / periodic basis (e.g., monthly, twice monthly or weekly visits) and have been leveraged “mostly” by those clients whose lake homes are vacant over the winter.
Given the recent situation, which occurred over this last weekend, we thought it would provide additional peace of mind to our clients, if we also offered our Winter Watch services on an “on demand” basis. That is, if the home isn’t fully shutdown over the winter, due to occassional visits/visitors, yet there are periods (weeks or months) of vacancy, it would be very worthwhile to have someone check on the home to make sure any issues (such as internal water leaks) don’t go unchecked for long periods of time.
As such, if you’d like to sleep better at night, knowing that your lake home, away from home, remains in good shape over the winter (or periods of vacancy) let us know and we’d be happy to do a periodic check for you. If/when we observe any issues we’ll promptly contact you and (if applicable) we’ll then orchestrate a prompt response / resolution.
Ah, to sleep well at night, with the peace of mind knowing that someone is periodically checking on your lake home, away from home, on your behalf.
In closing, we wish you a Happy New Year!
