In addition to wishing our Customers, Friends and Neighbors a heartfelt Happy Holidays, we at Raymond Cape Winter Watch want to share a few important items to increase your peace of mind regarding your lake home, away from home.
First, in preparing for snow removal season, we did drive-arounds to all the properties we maintain. And, we noticed that MANY do not have clearly displayed address numbers.
If you weren’t aware, the GPS property maps for our area are WAY off. The result, it can be difficult to locate a specific property when using GPS. In fact, one of our team-members ended up plowing one of our neighbor’s (a customer, but not for snow removal) driveway, vs. the one intended.
While we promptly followed up and plowed the correct driveway, it made us think about how much of a concern this could be – especially if/when the owner’s call emergency services. That is, they may not find or go to the correct home. In a life-threatening situation this could be disastrous. As such, if you don’t have a clearly displayed address # on your property, you are highly encouraged to put one up. Let us know if we can help you do so…
On that note, we now offer wood-working services and could build you a custom sign with your name and address on it.
Speaking of snow removal, we had our first plowable storm on 12/3, which dropped several inches of snow. For those of you who have not signed up for snow removal (with us, or someone else) you might consider doing so.
We realize that your lake home may not be occupied during the winter. In this case, snow removal serves the purpose of giving the home a “lived in” look, which can minimize the likelihood of a break-in. And, having a clear driveway ensures emergency services have appropriate access in the event of a house fire, etc.
And, finally, for those of you who may not be aware. We also offer Winter Watch services. In a nutshell, this entails performing periodic visual inspections looking for signs of damage from storms (e.g., tree falls, power remains attached to the home, generator is operational, etc.), break-ins, infestation, etc. The nominal fee charged enables our customers to sleep well at night knowing someone they trust is checking on their home from time to time, spotting issues early before they develop into more costly concerns and repairs.
In closing, we will continue to share observations and ideas that we hope will increase your peace of mind relative to your lake home, away from home.
